Is there anything I need to sign?
I know some clubs have liability forms. Please re-read meetup.com’s terms of service, especially section 6. You agreed to it in order to use this site. You may not have read it, but you had to check the box that said you did. In general, section 6 says if an organizer or any member places a event on the calendar and you get injured or something at it, it’s your own fault. If you can’t live with that, this group isn’t for you.
Who runs this group?
This is a group of people who like to hike, camp and backpack. There is no one in charge. If someone starts telling you what to do and you don’t agree with it, don’t do it. Use your own common sense and leave the event if you think it is too risky for your taste.
So who is this Ken who is the organizer? Isn’t he in charge?
Ken runs the web site. He can post calendar entries and moderate the message board, as can the other organizers. (Moderate means if someone puts something up that is inappropriate, she can delete it.)
What are the rules?
If you want a group that has rules, you don’t want this group. Ok .. there is one rule, and that is to be safe. That means if someone does something you think is unsafe, don’t hike with them. If that isn’t good enough, tell them about your concerns directly or whoever organized the event that you are uncomfortable. Or email the organizers. Nothing may get done about it, so be prepared for that. No one forced you to go to an event, and no one will force you to stay on one. You can leave at any time.

Green Bay Energy Workers is a group of open minded, free-thinking, spiritually developed idividuals with open hearts. We discuss everything from energy healing to mythology. The Monroe Institute (TMI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the personal exploration and understanding of the evolution of human consciousness. I started this group so cross country skiers in the Fox Valley area could meet others who are interested in skiing. This is two-fold. First, we could have events/get-togethers to ski in the area and second we could carpool during the weekends to head up to Minocqua Winter Park or ABR. These could be day-trips or overnighters. This would be great for those training for the Berkie!

I have enjoyed watching foreign movies since middle school. Movies I've watched are productions from all over the world. It's a great way to learn about other cultures. I especially enjoy foreign art films that are thought-provoking, with a touch on humanity and existentialism. It's more fun to watch movies with others. We can pick and watch one every other week, with light snacks and followed by casual discussion.
This group will plan weekly outdoor playdates, year-round, for preschool aged children. Playdates are for parents and children, and will be held at local parks and nature centers. Parents and their children who are interested in getting OUTSIDE to play should consider joining. Food and beverages will not be provided, as the main focus of this group is outdoor play.
Weather Policy: Play dates will be cancelled when Green Bay, DePere, Ashwaubenon or Howard/Suamico school districts close or run on a delay. Play dates will be cancelled when the temperature drops below 20 degrees, including windchill. Play dates will be cancelled when lightening is in the area. Always dress your children and yourself for the weather. Please be prompt when weather is questionable. Play dates may be short due to the weather.

Hope Alive is a newly formed group serving Northeast Wisconsin Singles' regionally and welcomes Christian men and women 26-38 years of age. The group organizer feels this age group of single adults has few opportunities to network and fellowship with one another outside the bar scene. Our intention is to focus on Family, Career, Finance, Health & Wellbeing, Recreation, Personal Growth, Friendship, Community, Household, Spirituality, and Support in these various aspects of doing life.

Another divide is the unequal ratio of men vs. women in the singles community. The Fox Valley Meditation center hosts mediation sessions, related discussions and events for adults, youth and families. Anyone interested in taking part in group meditation and discussions in a casual atmosphere where everyone is welcome should stop in for a visit during one of our sessions. All sessions are free and donations are accepted to support the use of the space.

Compassionate Heart meditation A meditation of loving acceptance and healing.
Part of our human challenge is that we live in a world that's divided and in pain.
The opening we need to lay down our anger and fear can be created through loving acceptance of each other and ourselves, and through healing the pain in our relationships and lives. At the end of the meditation below, there are some additional thoughts about it. This meditation is also one of the exercises we do in the workshops Living Your Deepest Truth and Welcome, Truth.

We've had a wonderful experience in the past year doing this meditation, and we will continue on Wednesdays throughout 2011. Starting at 12:15 p.m. (CST), a 30-minute Compassionate Heart meditation will be held at LifePath, 1620 S. Lawe St., Appleton, Wisconsin. We will not be meeting on April 20, although the regulars in the group will be doing the meditation at that time wherever they are and you can join us in spirit on that day. You are always welcome to participate with us wherever you are for this weekly meditation.
Compassionate Heart meditation is open to all. A voluntary donation will be collected and given to not-for-profit organizations working for peace.

I am recently new to Oshkosh due to a job and was looking for a nice group of friends to hang out with. At home I used to have a lan party group, where we would bring our computers to one location and play computer games, play card games, board games, movies, or whatever. So I was hoping to start up a group like that here in Oshkosh. I have all the networking stuff (a 24 port router, server, wifi, etc) so just need well mannered people to try it out with. If interested in any way (even if you don't have a computer) feel free to let me know.
We'll be exploring Ruby web application development, mostly through the Ruby on Rails framework, but we'll cover other topics like setting up your system for Rails dev, testing and behavior driven development, JavaScript programming (backbone.js, node.js, etc), amongst other code related things.
We don't require that you know Ruby to join, but it's going to be a technical group, so it's probably only a good fit for actual or aspiring web application developers. That being said, if you want to code Ruby, all skill levels are welcome!
I plan to have the meetings weekly with bi-weekly "presentations" that are 30-45 min in length. These presentations will be walkthroughs of new tools, gems, workflows, patterns, etc. and will be a fairly deep dive into their specific topic. All members of the group are more than welcome to present (I certainly won't be giving all the talks!) and I will definitely be getting some other members from the Ruby community to give talks as well. The non-presentation nights will be hack nights where we can all get together and build something awesome together, or work on our own apps with friendly Rubyists around to help with questions, etc.
You don't have to be available every week to join, but I have from 6-10pm free nearly every Wednesday so I plan to dedicate that time to hacking Ruby. I'd love to have others join me :)

The primary goal of this group is to bring parents and families in our community together for support and to reach out to educate ourselves and others in our community to these issues. Standing together we can make a difference in the lives of families in our community and beyond.
Aligning ourselves with parentalrights.org and furthering OUR cause to protect our rights as parents is in the "best interests" of our children.

Today parental rights are coming under assault from federal judges who deny or refuse to recognize these rights. Adding further danger to the child-parent relationship, international law seeking to undermine the parental role is advancing on the horizon. Together, these threats are converging to create a "perfect storm" that looms over the child-parent relationship.
A thirteen-year-old boy in Washington State was removed from his parents after he complained to school counselors that his parents took him to church too often. His school counselors had encouraged him to call Child Protective Services with his complaint, which led to his subsequent removal and placement in foster care. It was only after the parents agreed to a judge's requirement of less-frequent church attendance that they were able to recover their son.2
After four years of neglecting the child...the petition for taking away custody and placement should have been laughed out of court.
SHOULD have been.
Search the internet and you will find so many sad stories of parents who didn't deserve the treatment that they got: not by their ex's and not by the courts...the saddest of all is the treatment the child gets. The term "best interests of the child" is so overused as a shield that it's good intentioned meaning is perverted into something sick and sad. Where is the child when you're in court?
I heard a lot of lies...I saw a lot of dirty tricks...I heard a lot about money...all I talked about was my child and what's healthy for him and they hated me for it.
This problem is not gender specific...I'm a mother of two children and I have been treated very badly, my child suffers for it. I took care of my fiancee's daughter, who he has custody of, and to her I'm her "mommy". We are both responsible parents and we provided a stable and happy home for our children. Nobody should be allowed to take away our rights as parents to parent our own children...nobody should have the right to destroy my family.

The Fox Valley Entrepreneurs is a resource for small business owners and fledgling entrepreneurs by sharing information and resources. The group will try to provide a variety of venues for entrepreneurs to get to know each other, support one another and provide guidance.
The Fox Valley HOPE Project is just what it says it is. We are a group of people who believe that there is still hope to be seen in our weird, wonderful, crazy world. Sometimes we will be The Fox Valley HOPE Project- for parents.

Depending on what members needs are, we will develop the evening based on that.

Parents will have a place to come and talk to other parents who are struggling with the same or similar issues withour crazy kids.
Unemployed people will find a place to network, receive encouragement and maybe a different poin tof view- even if for one hour.
Each meeting will have a skills session where we learn new things. Wewill always have a mindful period.
We are hopeful that we will learn from each other and then take that and gift it to those around us.
There are no mistakes, and there are only friends we have not met yet. Ultimately we will dream dreams and see miracles together.
